The Practice of Accumulation: Hussam Hasan, Lara Salous, Noor Bseiso
The Practice of Accumulation is a group exhibition that investigates the visual traces and gestures embedded in acts of layering, collecting, constructing and creating, bringing to light the visible and invisible forces that quietly shape our material and immaterial worlds.
The exhibition shifts the word accumulation from a noun into a verb, questioning the larger theme in practice and dissecting it to ask who, how, where, in what form and under what conditions accumulation happens. It connects the larger accumulations of the urban environment, from the objects that surround our everyday life to the textiles and the façades to a wider sociopolitical system, revealing that there is nothing neutral about the ground on which this act takes place.
Through the works of Hussam Hasan, Lara Salous and Noor Bseiso, the exhibition approaches accumulation from multiple perspectives, each illuminating a distinct system, condition or actor: the labour that creates, the thread that gathers into textile under the constraints of occupation, and the quieter accumulations that flood our everyday lives with visual traces. Together, they dissect and reconstruct the concept, and ask what it means to gather, to create, to repeat, to construct, and what, in the process, is revealed or concealed. Nothing accumulates on its own, and behind every surface there is a hand, a resource, a condition and a life.
