"Contemplate" by Besher Koushaji: Contemplate

Oct 29 - Nov 21, 2022
In nature: flowers, have a simple purpose; reproduction. With every blossom arises hope. Contemplating life after the pandemic, I found that what people needed the most was hope. Like blossoms of flowers of different shapes and colors, people have looked for new beginnings.
I have captured the rich symbolism of flowers, tracing the changing meaning of roses, and blossoms. A single flower can represent, reproduction, purity, love and hardship.
Everything I reflected on after the pandemic and what lies ahead, I was drawn to the idea of hope and how flowers had an enormous effect on people.

These paintings of bouquets demonstrate art’s ability to freeze time and grant flowers eternal life.

Besher Koushaji
Born in 1983, Hama, Syria, Besher Koushaji has been a powerful force on the international art circuit for over a decade. He combines fine arts and graphic design, two seemingly contradictory disciplines, to produce mesmerising pieces. By breaking his images with lines and sections, he creates intricately layered distortions of his original subjects. Each artwork enriches the canvas with both light and dark – the positive and negative forces that permeate all existence.
His capacity to combine contemporary, fresh expression with classical Arabic calligraphy results in an unmatched depth and complexity. He intertwines Damascene architectural images, and bright, sunny palettes, creating intricate yet effortless pieces.
While Koushaji’s initial work focussed on the buildings of Syria, over time he has transitioned to infusing his paintings with portraits of the precious people he left behind.
One of Wadi Finan’s specially selected artists, his works are currently on display at Wadi Finan Art Gallery in Amman, Jordan.
