Dar Art Fair 2022
AMMAN — Jordan’s largest visual art exhibition will be launched next month.
In a press conference announcing preparations and details of the gathering, “DAR Art Fair” said its second edition will open in Swefieh Village in Amman on the June 3 and continue through June 10.
DAR Art Fair aims to support Jordanian and Arab artists by giving them a platform to showcase their creations, the organizers said. This year, the fair will feature a large collection of artworks from all categories of contemporary visual art by Jordanian artists, in addition to artists from 22 Arab countries, they added. The fair includes art collections from 15 participating galleries and more than 200 established and emerging independent artists.
A ceremony, which will precede the weeklong event, is scheduled for June 1. It will be by invitation to journalists, art collectors, and experts. “The exhibition aims to shed light on the diverse and rich artistic scene, “ said Rania Omeish, the fair’s founderdirector. She said it includes “all the genres: contemporary visual arts, and digital arts.” Participating galleries include the Orient Gallery, Jacaranda Images, Fann à Porter, Enki Ceramic Atelier, Karim Gallery, Wadi Finan Art Gallery, Jodar Artistry, Haseeba Gallery, Q0de Art Space, Samia Mango Collection, Nabad Gallery, Riwaq Al Balqa’, Hasan Ain Al Ibrahimi Collection, and Link Art Space.
“We’re so excited this year, as we also included NFTs work art within the exhibition, as the first NFTs exhibition on this scale,” Omeish said.
The Jordanian artists are creative, yet they are not getting the attention they deserve, she said. That is why such events are important to support artists and give them opportunities, she added. Dina Dabbas Rifai, a founder-chairman, said the exhibition focuses on raising awareness of art more broadly by providing the necessary platform and a stimulating environment for many artists to showcase their work. The bulk, or 60 percent of the participating artists are from Jordan, while the rest come from the Arab region, Rifai said.
“Finding the place and preparing for it was a significant challenge,” Rifai said. She said the location was selected because it is easy to get there being in the heart of
the Jordanian capital. Arda Aslanian, the fair’s manager, told Jordan News that out of 380 applicants who sought to take part in the art fair, only 24 percent was selected.
