Journeys of Hope: By Dalia Ali, Aya Abu Ghazaleh and Dana Barqawi
Past exhibition
In times where socio-political changes compose an inherent part of our reality, Dana chooses to reflect the context within her work, consequently creating politically and socially engaged art. Dana’s work challenges colonial narratives, explores indigenous identities, and aspects of womanhood and community.
Aya through her brush strokes; verses of nature are woven, depicts moments where trees, wheat, and more emerge, serving as staunch defenders of life itself. Symbolizing strength, resilience, resistance and interconnectedness, this serves as a testament to our stories, whether they embody our existence, memories, or strong ties to our land.
Trying to reconnect with her heritage and identity, and looking at photos of cities of Palestine, Dalia translated her impressions of the breathtaking landscape, resistant olive trees, intricate embroidery and unique architecture into artworks that exude a scent of Palestine. Her style ranges from abstract to more representational, using bold, expressive strokes and collage that capture the essence of each place. Through her artwork, she hopes to create pieces that are aesthetically pleasing, nostalgic and inspiring conversation about.
