Born in 1995 in Amman, Jordan, Bayan Kiwan is a Palestinian-Jordanian multidisciplinary artist based between New York and Amman. Through her body of work, she explores the complexities of place, memory, and the utopian in daily life. After obtaining a BFA from the University of Jordan, Kiwan furthered her studies at New York University, receiving an MA in Individualized Study. Kiwan’s research and artistic practice center around questions related to the social and cultural dimensions of space and time.
Through her paintings, she investigates the private socialization and intimacy of women, reflecting on omitted possibilities of relation and desire within preexisting square codes. Echoing the vivacity within the spaces and objects, Kiwan’s color palette emanates a fleshy, whimsical, and feminine aura, evoking an atmosphere of intimacy.
